About
What is LaserHacks?
A hackathon built for every student — regardless of experience, background, or major.
Our Mission
LaserHacks was founded to make the hackathon experience accessible to every student at Irvine Valley College. We believe the best ideas come from diverse teams, and that coding experience should never be a barrier to entry.
Whether you're a computer science student or a visual arts major, whether you've written thousands of lines of code or none at all — LaserHacks is for you.
Our Values
Build
Create something real — from zero to a working prototype in 24 hours.
Learn
Workshops, mentors, and hands-on experience you won't get in a classroom.
Connect
Meet students, mentors, alumni, and industry professionals in your community.
Create
Express yourself through technology — the medium is yours to choose.
Who Can Participate?
- ✓Current Irvine Valley College students (any major)
- ✓Community college students from partner institutions
- ✓Students who have never coded before are especially welcome
- ✓Teams of 1–4 people (solo participation allowed)
- ✓High school students with a supervising mentor (check current rules)
You don't need to know how to code.
Seriously. LaserHacks is designed for beginners first. We run workshops at the start of the event, pair teams with mentors, and encourage projects at any technical level. A beautifully designed poster, a thoughtful wireframe, a simple website — all valid submissions.
Many of our past participants had never built anything before LaserHacks. Many went on to study computer science, land internships, and build startups. It starts here.
Hosted by IVC
LaserHacks is organized by the Associated Students of Irvine Valley College (ASIVC) and volunteer student organizers. We partner with the IVC Computer Science department, local tech companies, and alumni to make the event possible.
